Thomas Muller Must Channel 2002 Ronaldo for Germany
"Every World Cup Needs a Hero"
Those were the legendary words said by the commentator when Ronaldo scored that memorable individual G in the 2002 World Cup to defeat Turkey. Brazil were struggling, Turkey had been very impressive in that match and were making it difficult for them. And so stepped up Ronaldo to deliver them in their time of need.
Thomas Jeremiah Muller must be that type of hero as German seek the double crown.
Muller has just gotten better and better since the first time the world saw him back in 2010. Part of those youthful Germans who have now grown into World Champions and excellent players.
Since then and now, Muller is set to break Klose's World Cup goalscoring record, he's a staple in the Bayern Munich team and people are beginning to respect the killer pedigree he has.
Already, he has every crown that you can win with the Euros being the only one missing. Germany are said to be favorites even though I don't agree.
But if they are to come out on top as victors in this, then Muller will have to play an important role. Despite all the talent that this very good German team have, Muller is the X-factor and the one they will look to for getting it done in those important moments.
But Muller has to want to take up that mantle. He could very easily just go along with how he's always been. Part of a great team and chipping in when need be. But I want him to take a leaf out of Ronaldo's notebook and be more than just part of the mass. He has to want to be that hero and instead of making the pass to Gotze or Gomez, he instead takes the shot himself. I want to see some arrogance and greed from him in this tournament all in the name of winning.
He's already seen as a very good player, but he can get even more respect and seen as a special one if he's the guy that helps Germany win these Euros. HH
