Thankfully Giroud scored. That was so relieving and I was happy that he did so. He had a very mixed game, but overall he did what he is supposed to do and he got the G. What worries me though is if he is in fact the main striker for this tournament and France don't play to his strengths.
No matter how much anyone tries, Giroud will never be the fastest runner in the world. So trying to play through balls to him and expect him to chase it, is futile and pointless. Also, don't give him the ball to feet and expect him to turn and unleash a goal like Henry. That's not his kind of game.
When Giroud looked good was when good crosses were put into the box, and he was able to push ahead of his defeder and get his head to the ball. Say what you will, but Giroud has his talents and his quality. As far as heading goes, anticipation and being a great target-man, he is on point. Deschamps has to realise this and focus on getting great delivery to him.
That has to be the instructions given to Sagna, Evra, Griezmann and Pogba. Get dangerous cross into the box that are hard to defend, and put on a plate for Olivier.
Through-balls must be banned, because that kind of pass only works for players like Martial who has the acceleration to get to the ball and unleash a snap-shot.
I don't think it's a good idea for Giroud to be the main striker at these Euros. When I saw Giroud unable to get onto passes, I just thought of Garmeiro and Benzema being in his place and what they would have done with those passes. But this is the bed that Deschamps has made and France need to just get with the program. Thus, France have to morph their game to cater to what Giroud is as a striker. It's not ideal and limits the football, but on the flip side, with players like Payet who can score G's like that, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. HH
