Antonio Conte Will Need his Finest Tactical Plan for Germany
So far, Conte has been one of the highlights of the Euros. His tactics and the way in which he has setup his Italian warriors has drawn praise from everyone. So much so that Italy have probably been the most consistent team so far and have gone from rank outisders (if that) to now being considered favorites.
The way in which Conte was able to nullify Belgium's threats and exploit the weak defence made everyone take notice. People were no longer raging at those left at home and these "nobodies" who were wearing the Azzurri shirt. It was now about if Italy could keep it going, as some may have seen ther Belgian victory as their only notable one
Then their victory over the holders Spain, again another comprehensive performance where Conte got his tactics perfect, cementing themselves as the team to beat. Italy had a plan and a clear strategy that has been a winning formula. The Irish loss doesn't count as Conte rested players knowing that whatever happened, they would top the group. So his first eleven are unbeaten and yet to concede a goal yet.
Talk about perfection.
Germany will pose a whole different challenge for Conte. World champions, one of the best midfields in the world and the finest central defensive partnership you can find. This is a step up from Belgium and Spain, and so Conte will need answers for the height and presence of Gomez, the skills of Draxler and ways in which to disrupt Hummels and Boateng in defence.
Conte will stick to the same ideals of having a very stout defensive wall, and being brave when they attack, which has served them very well so far. But I think he will be a bit concerned with what Gomez can represent. It's not about how good he is, as the back three should deal with him easily, it's him just being there and thus bringing in Muller, Ozil and Draxler into the game. It's something the Juventus trio just need to be mindful of, knowing when to defend to a man and when to operate as a unit.
And what a unit they are...my lawd.
Giacherrini I think will be really important for Italy. While the central defenders of Germany or supreme, the flanks of Germany are not the strongest, and getting that ball out wide and urging the little guy to try and beat his man on the outside and hook balls across could be a useful tactic for Conte. Giacherrini has already been one of the players of the tournament and I think again tonight he will be given a lot of the ball when they see Germany light at the back and they want to counter.
Can't wait. You all know Conte will be screaming his head off on the touchline and be coaching every single detail of the match. I just hope his heart can take it, because he'll need every ounce of his tacical knowledge to overcome the world champions. HH
